FIRST CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONFERENCE WITH PAPERS XIth_ECE_First Call_for_papers.RGT
All scholars with an interest in all aspects of Egyptology are cordially invited to
participate in the Eleventh European Conference of Egyptologists. Egypt 2025: Perspectives of
Research (XI ECE).
The conference will be held at the Hyperion University in Bucharest, Romania, from
the 9th to the 14th of September 2025.
SOME WORDS ON HISTORY OF THE ECE CONFERENCES
The three first symposia of what was then the “Central European Conference of Young
Egyptologists” were held in Warsaw in 1999, 2001 and 2004. They were initiated by Andrzej
Ćwiek, Joanna Kociankowska and Joanna Popielska-Grzybowska. The Conference was then
organised in Budapest in 2006 and in Pułtusk in 2009, while the next three meetings took place
in Cracow, in Zagreb, in Lisbon (respectively in 2012, 2015 and 2017), another one was an on
line event in 2021 in Trieste, and the last conference was held in presence in Warsaw, in 2023.
The original title was due to the fact that the first Conference was held in Poland. In the
past few years, however, the organising countries and the nationalities of the participants have
varied so much, that it is now time to recognise officially that this is a European gathering, based
on the same principles of equality, sharing, and cooperation that have inspired the organisers.
As in the previous editions, the conference is also open to the young generations of
Egyptologists (MA required), who will have a great opportunity for sharing their research with
more experienced scholars, in an environment that will hopefully stimulate the growth and
refinement of our discipline.
TOPICS OF THE CURRENT EDITION
The main focus is currently undergoing research in all fields of Egyptology, such as:
history and chronology from prehistory to the Arab conquest
archaeological research
artefacts (analysis, interpretation, iconography, typology etc)
museum collections
language and literature

anthropology, forensic and radiological research
